My First Home For The Holidays

Each year, around 125 youth participants, honorees, volunteers, staff, investors and board members come together for an annual holiday gathering at Mission Hills United Church of Christ. Volunteers from the church give the space a festive makeover with wreaths and large white candles on every table, and help set up a special holiday boutique where youth  receive holiday gifts for themselves or to give to their friends and family this holiday season. The aroma of BBQ fills the air from co-sponsors, The Smok’d Hog, who cater lunch with BBQ pulled pork & chicken and southern sides. To top it off, former Just in Time participant, Beronica Radford, founder of Bee’s Pops, provides a holiday cake pop for dessert.

Customary to My First Home For The Holidays are four youth awards for being “Connected,” “Confident,” “Capable,” and the top award “Triple Threat.” Each awardee shares compelling and heartfelt stories about their lives and speak about how the journey to becoming confident, connected and capable was made possible by the support of the JIT community. Awardees who are nominated by the JIT volunteer community get to collaborate on their acceptance speeches with longtime JIT volunteer and author of Business Storytelling For Dummies, Karen Dietz! Each powerful story is brimming with emotion, personal pride, and inspires the entire room!

This event is not to be missed. Please check back for the date of the 2017 My First Home For The Holidays event.
