My First Home for the Holidays
by Rachel Trujillo
This month, we held our annual My First Home for the Holidays event. This gathering brought together our Just in Time community – participants, alumni, staff, volunteers, board members, and supporters – for a cheerful celebration to kick off the holiday season.
Activities during the outdoor get-together included a nutcracker ring toss, holiday stress ball painting, wreath-making, gingerbread decorating, snowman making, a bean bag toss, a festive photo booth, and a holiday sweater contest. Every guest also enjoyed a merry meal of traditional American favorites prepared and served by Bekker’s Catering.
A highlight of the event was our Confident, Capable, and Connected Awards, where outstanding participants were recognized for their accomplishments and resilience throughout 2021. The winners were nominated by Just in Time volunteers and they each gave a short speech about their experiences and getting connected to our community. The Confident award went to Angie Torres; the Capable award to Torin Herbst, and the Connected award to Syona Menard. This year, we had an additional Triple Threat award winner too! Jason Bronicki received this award for embodying all the qualities of being Confident, Capable, and Connected.
The festivities wrapped with a raffle of over a dozen holiday gift packs for everyone who participated in the day’s activities. As participants left, each also received a Santa bag packed to the brim with goodies, a handmade scarf, and other gifts. In addition, participants with children were able to take home brand-new toys for their families.
A sense of joy and community could be felt throughout the day that will continue to warm our hearts all through the holiday season!
Growth. Grace. Gratitude.
