The Just in Time annual Thanksgiving dinner began with expressions of gratitude led by JIT Chief Empowerment Officer, Don Wells.
“I’m grateful for my wife, Diane. Some of you may not know, but she’s one of the founders of JIT 20 years ago! Just in Time is celebrating our 20th anniversary this year and if it weren’t for Diane, none of us would be here tonight.” – Don Wells.
For the nearly 150 youth and staff that attended the event at Mission Hills United Church of Christ, these expressions of gratitude ran the gamut. Youth expressed gratitude for Just in Time services, their coaches, and for JIT co-founder Diane Cox.
SOME WORDS OF GRATITUDE & THANKS FROM THE JIT COMMUNITY:

Lin, JIT Participant
“I just want to say I’m thankful for JIT. When I was 18, I came back to San Diego not knowing much and I got kicked out 4 months after I moved back. JIT has really been my support system since I’ve been in San Diego. I just want to say thank you for everything that you have done for me.”
“When I reached out to JIT, I was fresh out of prison and trying to get my life together. I was completely blown away by the volume of resources that JIT has. I’m thankful for my friends in the JIT community who are helping me continue to get my life on-track to where I want it to be.”
Sam, JIT Alumni
“The biggest thing I can say I’m grateful for when it comes to JIT is that they believe in you. There is no impossibility with them. It’s just a matter of how far you’re willing to go to get it.”
Eric, JIT Participant
“When I was in Mesa College, JIT helped me obtain everything I needed for school, especially a laptop. JIT really held it down for me and was there for me. I appreciate the people I’ve met in these rooms.”
Aliya, JIT Participant
Alex, JIT Alumni
“Even though I’m an alumni, JIT has still been able to help me. I’m paired with a coach right now. He’s super successful in real estate and I’ve got a new career path. My life is flipping and changing. I had an idea of who I was going to be, coming from my past and background, but I’m flipping that. Thank you, JIT.”

After the second and third servings of turkey and green bean casserole were gobbled down, JIT staff personally served pumpkin pie to youth and guests in attendance. Raffle tickets collected throughout the night were traded in by JIT youth for gift baskets, stuffed stockings and the grand prize – a Power XL Smokeless Grill.
