Don Wells Honored with Casey Excellence For Children Leadership Award
From Teacher to CEO: The Life-Changing Impact of Don Wells
Casey Family Programs, the nation’s largest operating foundation focused on safely reducing the need for foster care, recently announced JIT Chief Empowerment Officer Don Wells as a recipient of the prestigious 2025 Casey Excellence for Children Leadership Award.
The award recognizes individuals and organizations for their leadership and commitment to improving the lives of children and families involved with the child welfare system.
Starting as a high-school teacher, Don’s career path in TV, marketing, and consulting eventually led him to JIT as a volunteer before leading JIT for the past 15 years
Under Don’s guidance, Just in Time expanded services and outreach, prioritizing measurable impact and fostering lasting relationships for thousands of youth transitioning from foster care.
Casey Family Programs and Just in Time have had a long and meaningful collaborative partnership.
In fact, in 2009, Casey Family Programs provided Just in Time’s very first office space, pro bono, at their Old Town, San Diego location (pictured left).
Just in Time operated from there until 2017 when we moved into our current, space in Mission Valley.
