Chuck DenHerder with JIT participant
At Just in Time for Foster Youth, independence often begins with reliable transportation. That’s why Just in Time’s Changing Lanes service is proud to collaborate with Stacy and Chuck DenHerder’s Drive2Success initiative to connect former foster youth, ages 18–26, with donated vehicles from our community.
For young adults who have just earned their driver’s licenses through JIT’s Changing Lanes service, a car isn’t just a convenience, it’s a lifeline to school, work, and new opportunities. Through Drive2Success, community members donate their vehicles, which are then inspected, repaired if needed, and prepared for a safe handoff. Participants who meet eligibility requirements – including stable housing, employment, financial literacy training, and a demonstrated budget for ongoing car expenses – are matched with a vehicle through a fair and supportive process.
Behind the scenes, Stacy and Chuck DenHerder play a vital role in working with donors and guiding participants through every step, from paperwork to insurance. The result is more than just a car—it’s confidence, stability, and the ability to fully participate in our community.
Just in Time’s collaboration with Drive2Success is proof of what happens when generosity meets preparation: together, we help former foster youth not only get behind the wheel, but also drive toward brighter, self-sufficient futures.
“Getting a car has been the highlight of my adult life, so far. It’s been transformative! Having a car makes me feel like I’ve come into adulthood. Before, when I relied on Uber and public transportation, I felt so limited. Now, I can take myself to work and school. I can take myself anywhere I want to go.”

“We have two sons who share a passion for cars. Our older son races a Porsche 911 he rebuilt himself on tracks around Southern California, and our younger son is restoring a 1966 Mustang while running a thriving Turo business. When they were younger, we wanted to find a way to give back, and to involve them in giving back too. Through Just in Time, we learned that many young people who grew up in foster care never had the chance to learn to drive or receive a first car from a parent. We saw an opportunity to help bridge that gap. That’s how our family partnered with Just in Time to create the Drive2Success collaboration with Changing Lanes.” – Stacy DenHerder, Drive2Success Co-Founder, JIT Community Member
