Transforming empty apartments into cozy homes for our youth
Twenty years ago, Just in Time started with a single service – My First Home. Today, we continue coming together as a community to transform empty apartments into safe and comfortable living spaces for our youth.
Last week, we welcomed the support of community partners MG Properties and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity CLTCA at our bi-monthly My First Home shopping day! With their help we were able to support six youth as they picked out items for their homes – everything from kitchen tables to hygiene supplies – transport those items to apartments and get them set up!
On this shopping day, in addition to a new coffee and dining table, Just in Time participant Kyrah came up on a keyboard hidden in the “games section” of the distribution center. She was overjoyed!
“It’s my favorite item that I found! I make music, so I felt like this was just here waiting for me!”
-Kyrah, JIT Participant
Participant Jay was able to entirely furnish his apartment, ensuring that he and his young family would have a safe and comfortable space to live and grow.
It’s with the help of volunteer community members that we are able to meet the increased demand for furnishing and home goods that we experience in the summer months. Thank You!
We are also grateful for everyone who helps keep our My First Home Distribution Center shelves stocked
If you are interested in donating home goods or gently used furniture to My First Home, you can find our Target registry (which can be sent directly to the My First Home Distribution Center) and info on in-kind donations, below.
