When Sean Handy and his now-wife Heather relocated from Vermont to San Diego, they were looking for ways to give back to their new community. They quickly found Just in Time for Foster Youth, an organization that aligned with their passion for giving back time and resources to the next generation.
As a Financial Reporting Manager at American Assets Trust with an extensive background in both finance and business, Sean’s skills have been invaluable to participants navigating financial literacy in JIT’s Financial Fitness service.
When I heard the youth stories, they spoke volumes to me. It has been a blessing to be part of their services, watching the participants grow, and now getting more involved as a Board Member.
Recently, Sean supported youth and fellow volunteers at a self-filing tax workshop at the Just in Time office. With the help of Sean and other volunteers in the community, participants were able to avoid errors on their returns and maximize tax credits to make the most out of their returns.
Sean has also had a strong presence in JIT’s My Life, My Story male cohort, which pairs young men in the community with coaches as they reflect on issues related to self care and healthy relationships.
Now, we are proud to say that Sean is a sitting member on the Just in Time Board where he is effecting change from the inside out!
Earlier in the month, Sean appeared alongside JIT CEO Don Wells for a KUSI interview to talk about his experience as a Just in Time community member.
