March 30: Financial Fitness 103 Workshop
Last week, Just in Time’s Financial Fitness service hosted a tax-filing workshop with community partners United Way, Dreams for Change, and John Burton Advocates. They helped 21 youth participants self-file taxes, bringing clarity to the process and ensuring that youth eligible for this year’s new Foster Youth Tax Credit of $1,083 left no money on the table. Most participants received a tax refund which will go a long way toward covering critical necessities.
“The volunteers from United Way were awesome! We had IRS officials there to help us with retrieving any documents we needed and the volunteers to help walk me through. In the past, I’ve had a hard time doing taxes myself. I’m so thankful for Nathaniel and the volunteers helping me with this so I can eventually do this on my own someday.”
Jacob – JIT Participant
Recently, Financial Fitness participants Samantha and Monique reached “Matched” savings goals for their engagement in the service!
“Through Financial Fitness, I’ve been able to invest in stocks, ETFs, and pay security deposits for two years. By attending workshops, I learned skills that will carry on to my future: filing taxes, home ownership, and all the different ways to invest my money.”
Samantha Villajin – JIT Participant
