Jasmine entered foster care at the age of 17. As an older youth, there were no real efforts to place her. She found herself in a group home in Orange County waiting to age out of the system.
“The only thing that was on my mind was going home to San Diego. I wasn’t prepared for what would happen next, like transitioning to a group home and my plan for after I left the group home. After my 18th birthday, I was given an address and told I was free to go. It wasn’t a smooth transition at all.”
Jasmine joined the Just in Time community in 2018 after hearing about the My First Home (MFH) service from a roommate at her transitional housing program. Through MFH Jasmine furnished her first apartment and was quickly connected to other services.
Jasmine has worked her way up through Just in Time’s Financial Fitness service, learning how to budget and save. She is now in the highest chapter of the service (FF 103) where she receives matched savings to help on her journey to financial stability.
“Learning about finances through Just in Time has been a huge help. Before, my finances were all over the place,”
-Jasmine.
She is also enrolled in Just in Time’s Pathways to Financial Power service focused on professional development and entrepreneurship and Just in Time’s College Bound service, which provides financial and community support to her as she pursues her degree in Social Work at San Diego City College.
“Just in Time has really been my lifeline. They’re the ones I know I can turn to when times are tough. I don’t really know any other resources that are readily available like JIT’s are.”
