Each year, Just in Time mobilizes hundreds of volunteers to act as coaches, advocates, and facilitators to the youth we serve. They are at the heart of our mission, which recognizes Community as a foundation for wellbeing.
Recently, we celebrated some of our most exceptional and long-standing volunteers with a Volunteer Appreciation Event at Stone Brewery in Liberty Station.
Attendees received recognition for the role they play in the lives of our youth. Staff members shared stories of impact from the volunteer community, and volunteers shared their JIT stories with each other.
Maurice with Participant
Maurice joined Just in Time as a volunteer in 2015. His unique talent as a professional clothing stylist at Macy’s has empowered hundreds of Just in Time youth to walk into job interviews, networking events and fundraising events with confidence. He shared with fellow volunteers how, over the years, past participants have visited him at Macy’s with their children in tow, eager to introduce them to their young families.
Mary Gross and Cecy
Volunteer Mary Gross told the story of her relationship with JIT participant Cecy. They were paired through a female empowerment service at JIT. Over time, their bond grew until they were practically family. In 2023, they made it official. Mary adopted Cecy and they are now legally mother and daughter.
More than storytelling, the event gave volunteers the chance to bond with each other over food, beer and trivia. At the end of the evening, attendees were presented with appreciation gift bags that included JIT branded hats, traveler’s mugs, journals and pins.
We are so sincerely grateful for every single volunteer in the Just in Time community.
