Last week, Just in Time for Foster Youth hosted our first-ever Volunteer Mixer!
During the event, attendees got the opportunity to connect with other Just in Time volunteers, JIT alumni, and youth.
The event included two speakers: JIT Volunteer Lucia Ahn and JIT participant Victoria. Both shared their personal experiences within the JIT community to create an intimate portrait of what it means to be a JIT community member – as a coach and as a participant.
“My coaches have shown me that I am worthy of being cared for and they have given me the confidence to commit to being a better person.”
Victoria – JIT Participant
Studies show people who engage in regular volunteering report higher levels of life satisfaction and happiness
“As a new JIT volunteer, I wondered, ‘Am I even qualified to do this? What do I know about foster youth?’ but as I began to connect with the youth, I realized I was in the right place doing the right thing. Sometimes I feel like I’ve gotten so much more out of coaching the youth, then I could ever give to them in return.”
