Zane joined Just in Time’s College Bound service during the thick of the pandemic. As a San Diego State University student, he had been working a contracted job as a political campaign supervisor when COVID hit. His contract ended four days before the shutdown. He was ineligible for unemployment (he applied three times and was denied) and with businesses shuttered had no job prospects.
Through Just in Time, Zane received a laptop and printer and other essential school supplies, but most importantly, he was connected to a community of peers who could relate to his experiences and coaches to encouraged him along his college journey.
“What Just In Time gave me was community. That’s what I didn’t have growing up. Going to school at San Diego State during a pandemic, I had a hard time connecting to people, let alone people who understood me and what my journey was.”
