When the Just in Time shuttle left the Mission Valley office last Thursday it was bound for the beach, but participants on board weren’t searching for the perfect tan, they were searching for the perfect job opportunity.
Where? At Belmont Village Senior Living in Cardiff.
The field trip organized by JIT’s NEXTjobs employment service was a cross-generational endeavor, one that would bring a group of Gen Z talent to tour and explore the expansive grounds at Belmont Village, which boast a wellness center, restaurant style dining, salons and more – essentially a small village nestled alongside the San Elijo Lagoon.
The level of experience among participants varied – several of the participants were college students working toward degrees in Social Work and Nursing, several had past experience in the caregiving field. One young woman had done hair and nails at a senior center in the past and hoped to find work in the salon. Each attendee was excited to interact with the residents.
“I love seniors. I believe they carry so much wisdom, knowledge and care. They’re just good to be around,” said Summer, a Just in Time participant who had recently completed training at Kitchens for Good.
Belmont Village has a full-service dining area offering kitchen and hospitality work.
After the tour, which included a peek inside resident apartments, youth got the chance to meet directly with Belmont hiring managers for interviews.
They finished the day with lunch in the Bistro where they got the chance to meet and chat with the seniors who call Belmont “Home.”
“It was a fantastic opportunity for employment with multiple different career options. I learned the value of team work and with the right community, you can build a strong and effective system that provides a lifetime of care!” Gia, JIT Participant.
