Art made by JIT youth will hang at San Diego Watercolor Society Gallery through May
Original paintings by Just in Time artists graced the white walls of San Diego Water Color Society’s (SDWS) Liberty Station gallery on May 3rd for their First Friday art opening.
Palette of Possibilities is a months long collaboration between JIT youth and SDWS volunteers, an endeavor with a focus, not just on skill sharing, but on creative healing.
For many JIT artists, seeing their art hang on an art gallery wall was a dream come true.
“Someone just bought my painting!” exclaimed Olan, a JIT artist with two pieces featured in the exhibit. Both sold that night. Proceeds from sales will go directly to the artists. Work will be on exhibit at the gallery throughout the month of May, which is both National Foster Care and Mental Health Awareness Month.
“When I saw my work hanging in the gallery last year, I got a little emotional because it’s always been a dream of mine to be in an art gallery or an art show. Seeing it there solidified that this is something I Can Do, and it doesn’t mean that because I wasn’t able to explore it when I was younger that I can’t do it now.” –Stephany Polanco, Just in Time Participant
