Volunteers, Youth, and staff gathered outside the My First Home Distribution Center, Saturday, June 17th, for a first glimpse at upgrades made possible by San Diego Kiwanis Club Foundation. The $25,000 grant allocated funds to upgrade bathroom fixtures and shelving; restock shelves with mattresses, bed frames, microwaves, and more; and to breathe a celebratory vibe into the space where youth gather to choose furniture for their first apartments.
Just in Time’s Chief Impact Officer Irving Chavez, and My First Home’s Youth Services Coordinator Alyssa Player both took the mic to express gratitude for the San Diego Kiwanis Club Foundation’s consistent support of the JIT mission.
“Think of it as creating your very first home, if you walked out and had nothing – That’s what the funding is for – everything from large furniture down to silverware and utensils. We’ve got a group of about half a dozen Kiwanians to help young adults ‘shop’ and bring those things back to their home today.”
