Creative & Connected: Jacob’s Story
by Virgo Villajin
“When I was younger, I faced many issues due to my parents’ neglect, but all of those obstacles have helped me prepare for the real world. I hope that by sharing my personal journey I can make others realize that nobody is alone and that no matter how hard life may be there is always someone out there willing to help.”
Jacob joined Just in Time last year in hopes of expanding his network of support. While he participated in other nonprofit organizations, he felt that some were too focused on large events and lacked the ongoing support he needed.
Jacob shared, “Just in Time stands out to me because it’s not just about a couple of sporadic events throughout the year, there’s so many consistent workshops and opportunities to connect with and that I can access throughout the year.”
Despite joining JIT less than a year ago, Jacob has jumped into our community and is actively participating in multiple services! Some of his recent favorites include College Bound, Financial Fitness and Rise to Resilience. Rise to Resilience helped empower him to explore his story creatively, which is perfectly in line with his passion for graphic design. Recently,Jacob was able to create an album cover based on his story at a Rise to Resilience workshop.
Jacob also believes that working with the lived experience staff has had a tremendous impact on him. He shared, “I love how real they are, people are so willing to be authentic and connect with anyone that comes in and that feeling of a real connection is irreplaceable.”
We’re thrilled about the new connections Jacob is making in our community and look forward to hearing more about the new ones to come!
