Morrel joined Just in Time searching for opportunities to boost his ambition as he worked through challenges that for many people would be deterrents for a successful future. Through community and connections, he learned that taking care of his mental health and well being is as important as being goal oriented.
While he was studying for his Bachelor’s in Biology at SDSU, Morrel had to pause his studies to support his family when his niece was born with health complications. In the meantime, he stayed connected to his JIT community and continued to participate in our services until he was ready to resume his classes. He shared, “Hardships are not uncommon to former foster youth; our resilience is what makes us one of a kind, these struggles and triumphs only make me a more competitive student.”
Staying true to his ambitious spirit, Morrel has since graduated from SDSU, completed all of JIT’s services, opened a ROTH IRA account and completed his long term goal of saving up for his Invisalign braces.
Another long term goal was to obtain a Master’s Degree but the path was unclear. That is until JIT’s Monica Cannon introduced Morrel to Keck Graduate Institute and it’s head of Admissions and Financial Aid, Dean Toro. In the fall of 2021, Morrell was awarded a Master Your Dream scholarship from JIT and is now working on his Master’s in Business and Science.
“I owe a lot of my personal and professional success to the JIT community, especially Bridges to Success and Financial Fitness. I’m grateful to be a part of this amazing organization that believes in former foster youth and equips us with the skills that allow us to become our own success story.”
Morrel is on his way to mastery in both his education and in life skills that he’s implementing everyday and we’re excited to see where his ambition will take him!
