At JIT, we understand that having a safe and stable living situation is critical to the well-being of former foster youth. That’s why our My First Home service provides guidance with access to affordable housing and transforms empty living spaces into warm homes with new or gently used furnishings and home goods from our caring community.
Recently, JIT delivered and set up furnishings for participant Azucena, a mother of two young daughters. Azucena shared her appreciation with My First Home Coordinator Emilio Carranza saying, “I’m so grateful for the My First Home service for providing me with a beautiful comfy couch to sit on and a matching coffee table. I’m especially grateful for the dining table and chairs to sit and eat dinner with my two girls. We will be doing everything from homework to crafts to baking on this beautiful solid table you have gifted us! My daughters and I are filled with warmth and love from Just In Time’s support! We have recently been homeless and have been doing our best to get by and get through each day.”
Samantha, a mother of a one-year-old, had been putting off her passion for baking because of her unstable housing situation. That is until long-time volunteer Gretchen Morgan and the great folks from Solana Beach Presbyterian Church stepped in. Together, they set up Samantha’s space, transforming it into a warm, loving environment. Thank you to these volunteers and to all the volunteers in the JIT community for all that you do!
