As the government shutdown enters uncharted territory as the longest in history, those reliant on federal programs for essential items like food are being affected. For transition foster youth, many of whom rely on SNAP for food assistance, the delay is already being felt.
Recently, Just in Time CEO Don Wells and Just in Time Youth Services Coordinator Alyssa Player visited CBS 8 to talk about what JIT is doing to ensure transition-age foster youth in our community are supported.
As SNAP benefits are delayed, we are experiencing heightened demand for non-perishable food items. Help us support JIT youth during this difficult time by donating food cards from local grocery stores or non-perishable food items. For our unsheltered youth who do not always have access to full kitchens, we really need food that can be readily made in microwaves or with hot water.
We are accepting donations at our Mission Valley location: 4560 Alvarado Canyon Rd. Suite 2A SD, CA 92120. Call (619) 770-1850 or visit www.jitfosteryouth.org to learn more about our mission.
