THE EVENT
Saturday, October 23
7pm – 11pm
The Abbey on Fifth
2825 Fifth Ave, San Diego, CA 92103
You’re invited for a trip down the rabbit hole in Wonderland for the San Diego Public Defenders’ 8th annual casino night! During A Mad Hatter Tea Party, you’ll enjoy food and a hosted bar, entertainment, dancing, casino games and more – all for a good cause!
The evening will benefit Just in Time for Foster Youth and help end the foster care-to-prison pipeline.
JUST IN TIME’S MISSION
Just in Time’s mission is to engage a caring community to help transition age foster youth achieve self-sufficiency and well-being. Together, we can make sure these young people have the resources and connections they need to avoid the criminal justice system and live productive, satisfying lives.
Every year, hundreds of young people leave a System they were placed in because of circumstances beyond their control, too often feeling unsure, unprepared, and disconnected. Is it any wonder that outcomes have been discouraging for youth leaving foster care after 18 without the benefit of an extended family?
- • By age 17, over half of youth in foster care experience an arrest, conviction, or overnight stay in a correctional facility
• Youth placed in group homes are 2.5x more likely to get involved in the justice system
• 90% of youth with 5+ foster placements will enter the justice system
Your support helps end the foster care-to-prison pipeline and empowers over 1,000 young people in San Diego, ages 18-26, with the safety net, resources, and relationships that every young adult needs to survive and thrive. This includes emergency basic needs such as food and rent, setting up one’s first apartment, education, employment, transportation, mental health, and all the building blocks essential to becoming Confident, Capable, and Connected.
