The most important thing that participants gain at Just in Time for Foster Youth is a caring community of support made up of like-minded peers, volunteers, mentors/coaches, investors, staff, board members, partners, and more! Every year, JIT holds various events where the community is invited to come together to bond and enjoy a good time with great company!
In November, our youth and their families, staff, and select volunteers gather for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. This special night hosted at Mission Hills United Church of Christ typically takes place the Thursday before Thanksgiving and is highlighted by a traditional Thanksgiving dinner prepared by Bekker’s Catering, crafts, games, raffles, and delicious apple pies donated by the Julian Pie Company!
Every August we hold a JIT Family Reunion Picnic and the WHOLE community and their friends and family members are invited — participants, alumni, volunteers, staff, board members, investors, community partners, and all! This huge outdoor event features games and activities such as a watermelon-eating contest, musical chairs, a water balloon fight, face painting, tie-dye, dancing, raffles, fresh catered food, frozen treats and refreshments, and so much more. It’s fun for the whole family and then some!
Each summer, we are fortunate to team up with supporters like Surf for a Purpose to host a Surf Day for our youth! This day of fun in the sun includes surf lessons, yoga on the beach, food, and more. It’s a great way to enjoy our beautiful city and our incredible community!
Every year, we look for new opportunities to get together as a community! Other community events have included outings to the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld San Diego, snorkeling, hiking, fishing excursions, yoga, and Padres games. Have an idea or opportunity for an event? We’d love to hear about it! Contact us today with details.
